Things to Think About When Growing Your List

By: Christa Theg
Your email list is your brand's greatest asset!

Making sure that you are in compliance with anti-spam laws will not only help you to grow your reach. It will also help you to get better response rates and engagement while ensuring that your subscribers are the people that you want to be reaching.

One way of doing this is by using the double-opt-in method. This method allows you to confirm that the potential subscriber gave you real and active account information. The subscriber will opt in once and then an email will automatically be sent out asking them to confirm the subscription. This process rules out the possibility that the person didn't actually want to subscribe. Using this method will help to ensure that your list is active and will ultimately help you to get higher conversion rates.

Another way of ensuring that your list is responsive is to NEVER assume that you have been given permission to automatically a person's email to your list. Marketers often make this mistake. It is wrongly assumed that after a prospect has reached out asking for information or customer service that implies permission. However, unless a prospect has given their direct permission through giving their information during an opt-in form, you should not add them to your mailing list! A good way to put that option in front of a prospect would be to include a signup button or link in your emails with that person. This will offer the option to subscribe to those who are interested.

You want to be providing your audience with as many opportunities as possible to sign up for your list. Social media is a great resource to use when growing your list! It can be easy to forget that our "friends" and "followers" have already opted in by being part of your audience so that makes them great candidates for our email list! While people are spending more and more time on social media it doesn't offer the same reach or hold the same importance in peoples day to day lives. People rely on email when it comes to, work/business, family, and connecting for many other purposes. In that respect, it makes sense to offer your audience that more intimate form of connection as well.

These are some of the best tips for growing your email list. If you are looking for other resources to help you with your email marketing be sure to check out the sidebar of this blog for additional information and other goodies.
