Here’s how I made my first affiliate marketing sales using TikTok .
The easiest way for me to show you how to make sales from TikTok is to tell you what I did.
But first we’ve got to get your TikTok up and running and sparkling ✨
So here we go
Optimising your profile
Ideally you want something about being an affiliate or making money online in your profile wording.
This way, when people are searching TikTok (yes, more and more people and using TikTok as a search engine now) your beautiful face will pop up.
Go and take a look yourself at keywords such as:
- Make money
- Passive income
- Affiliate
So make sure the name of your page is something like Make Money with [your name] OR Affiliate Marketing with [your name]
It’s great to have your full name in there somewhere too - YOU are the brand, after all. And the more often people see your name, the more recognisable you will become as an authority in your industry.
My tiktok handle is Michelle.Haslam.Official
Use a software such as Canva for making a stand-out headshot
Go and search for what others have as their headshots and see what stands out for you - what draws you to look at their page?
Content Strategy
A lot of people struggle with creating even one video a day
But here are a few tips to help you with your content strategy:
Use your affiliate marketing business as inspiration. If you’re a member of a course, what are you learning that day? Seen someone else’s content you don’t agree with? Let the world know. Done something new that day? Tell us. Once you tune into the mindset of ‘everything could be content’ the ideas will flow
Make sure you have a way of noting down content ideas as they come to you. Inevitably most will happen at a time you can’t film. I use the Evernote app to record all my ideas down. Then, even on days I seem to have zero inspiration, I have a ton of content ready to talk about.
Make sure your content is ALL to do with your affiliate marketing niche. Tiktok gets confused when you start mixing up niches, so if you want to make content on several subjects, make different accounts.
Hashtags / SEO
As I mentioned before, Tiktok is increasingly becoming the search engine of choice. So getting your hashtags and SEO right is imperative.
So make sure that the keywords for what you’re talking about in the video are in:
Any captions you write (or auto generate)
The hashtags
The description
The title cover
Consistency is the word here
Try and keep your hashtags to under 50k views if you can. A good way of doing that is by putting the current year after the keyword and maybe an emoji - e.g #quityour9to5 has 60.8M views. #quityour9to5in2022✨ Has 14.3k views
This means you’re more likely to be found at the top of the page when someone searches for that hashtag
Filming and editing
Here are some basic filming tips
Look at the camera lens not the screen - it looks like you’re looking directly into your viewers eyes
Smile while you talk
Talk quickly - people get bored of slow speakers.
Don't chat rubbish. Get to the point, make the point and move on.
Cut out ALL dead air. No ummms…
the more movement and change of background, the better. So walk while you talk, or film one video throughout the day in different locations (you’ll need to script it a bit) Use transitions at the beginning of the video (and throughout) (eg walking into frame / moving the camera to your face)
Lighting
It’s best to use natural lighting if possible - so in front of a window, or you can go outside. Make sure you’re facing the light so no shadows are on your face. However I am a huge advocate for NO perfectionism. If it’s dark outside - electric lighting works too. You can buy a ring light etc if you want to - they’re quite cheap from Amazon
Your Look
Once again - NO PERFECTIONISM
Hair unbrushed?
Make-up not on?
Wearing an old jumper?
It doesn’t matter
Use the enhance filter if you’re bothered about your make-up free face
To edit your video more professionally, use a free app like CapCut
Making money
So this is all very well, but HOW do you make the sales?
Well that came when I started making honest, transparent and vulnerable content.
I documented my journey (ie my constant failures) in affiliate marketing
I showed people how HARD it is to make sales (despite the claims it’s easy)
I joined a program where a lot of people were having big success and talked about it all honestly on my account
I talked about how frustrating it is NOT to be making sales
And suddenly people started coming forward to talk to me
They found me on tiktok
They joined my FB group
They knew that with me they’d get total and utter honesty
I listened to their needs and moulded my offering around them
And then… 💥 SALES
